The following results are obtained from the 185 people(174 males, 11 femals) whose treatment results have been certainly indentified among 264 who were treated with the auricular acupuncture therapy twice to no-smoking in the internal treatment Dep. in Sangji University Oriential Medicine Hospital during about a month, from May 2 to 31, 1994.
The following results have obtained
1. Distribution of age in descending order ; 30s, 40s, 50s, 20s, 60s, 70s, 10s. The 30s, 40s, and 50s age group made up 70.8% of the group Distribution of sex ; male(94.1%), female(5.9%) Distribution of occupation in descending order ; office worker, unemployed person, labour worker, businessman, and student.
2. Distribution of smoking amount a day in descending order ; 11-20 cigarettes, 21-30 cigarettes, 1-10 cigarettes, 31-40 cigarettes, and over 41 cigarettes. Smoking 11-20 cigarettes made 54.1% of all.
3. Distribution of duration in descending order ; 11-20 years, under 10 years, 31-40 years, 41-50 years, an over 51 years. Smoking 11-30 cigarettes made up 50.3% of all.
4. Distribution of the reason to no-smoking in descending order; health, inducement, social reasons, religious reasons, educational reasons. Health reasons made up 73% of all.
5. The decrease of desire to smoke after the auricular acupuncture treatment made up 74.8% of all. The success rate in times of treatment : 5 times(87%), 3 times(86%).
6. Distribution in change of cigarette taste(78.9%) after the auricular acupuncture treatment in descending order ; lost, bitter, insipied, nauseant, grassy ordered. Conspicuous change of cigarette taste : over 3 times of the auricular acupuncture treatment.
7. Distribution of additional effects(21.6%) after the auricular acupuncture treatment in descending order; easy drunkenness, dizziness, lethargy, good appetite, poor appetite, a feeling of helpessness, a decrease of a desire for drink, hyperpalpitation, headache. Conspicuous additional effects : over 5 times of the auricular acupuncture treatment.
8. After the auricular acupuncture treatment, the total judgements of giving up smoking : recover (20%), good(38.9%), moderate(22.2%), slight(7.6%), and unchanged(11.3%).
9. The success rate in smoking amount a day in descending order; 31-40 cigarettes(95%), 1-10 cigarettes(92%), 11-20 cigarettes(81%), 41-60 cigarettes(80%), and 21-30 cigarettes(65.7%).
10. The success rate in duration in descending order; over 51 years(100%), 11-20 years(89.8%), 21-30 years(86.4%), 31-40 years(75.8%), downward 10 years(74.45%), 41-50 years(58.35%).
